The “Crop” Top – Free Crochet Pattern

The Crop Top is the perfect warm weather accessory and so easy to make. And if you haven’t used Bernat Baby Marly yarn yet you are going to just fall in love with its softness! 

Materials

  • US Q (15mm) hook
  • 2 x Bernat Baby Marly (100% polyester, bulky #5, 221 yards per skein)

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • ch sp = chain space
  • sc = single crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • dc = double crochet

Notes

  • pattern in US terms
  • finished size: approx. 26″ wide x 14″ long laying flat excluding tassels
  • ch 2 at the beginning of each row counts as the first dc
  • front and back panels are identical and worked from the top down

Pattern

Make 2

To Start: ch 38

Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain from hook, sc in each chain across, turn. (37 sts)

Row 2: ch 2, sk 1, (2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in next st, *sk 3, (2dc, ch 1, 2dc), repeat from * till you have 2 sts left, sk 1, dc in last st, turn.

Row 3: ch 2, (2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in each ch sp, dc in last st, turn.

Row 4-11: repeat row 3.

To Finish: Cut yarn, weave in ends.

Seaming

Laying both pieces flat on top of each other with the sc row at the top. Whip stitch the sides together from the bottom up approx. 5″. Then whip stitch the top approx. 5.5″ to create the neckline. 

Tassels

Cut 28 36″ long of yarn for the tassels.

Attach using the larks knot into each ch sp along the bottom of the top.

Then attach 5 tassels on each side (see photo for placement).
