This pattern is super easy, and if you know me I like easy knitting patterns. 🙂
The Terabyte Toque is essentially a very long tube that you fold inside itself to create the double layer.
Materials
- US 10.75 (7.0 mm) 16″ circular needles
- yarn needle
- 2 x Paintbox Simply Aran (100% acrylic, worsted weight, 201 yards per skein)
- approx. 250 yards for this project
Abbreviations
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- k = knit
Notes
- pattern in US terms
- finished size: 8″ wide x 9″ tall
- gauge: 4″ x 4″ = 13 sts x 19 rows stockinette stitch
Pattern
To Start: Cast on 50 sts using the long tail cast on method, leaving approx. 10″ tail
Round 1 – 130: knit stockinette stitch (k each stitch)
To Finish: Weave in tail to bind off the last round, leave a 10″ tail, do not cinch all the way yet.
With the cast on (round 1) tail, weave in the tail in every other stitch of the first round and cinch.
Place your hand inside the tube from the last round knitted and pull the other end through.
You will now have both the cast on and cast off ends together.
Cinch the inside section (this is the cast on round you pulled through).
Cinch the outside section (this is the cast off round) and tie the two ends together.
Weave in ends with a darning needle though all layers of the toque.
Fold up the band and done!

I love this pattern. Will cast it on this week as the cooler weather is approaching.
I’m confused. Is knit every stitch not garter stitch? Your picture looks like stockinette, alternate knit & purl rows. What am I missing?
Thank you for your comment. Yes garter is knit every stitch but only when you’re working flat in rows. This pattern is in the round worked on circular needles. So you would simply just knit every stitch all the way around to create this toque. Hope this helps!
She is using circular needles, thus knitting every stitch.
So, this is basically a reversible hat & if I were to change colors, I won’t need to hide my ends, correct??
Yes exactly! 🙂
Rather than counting 130 rows, what is the measurement end-to-end before cinching?
Hi Georgia, great question. The tube should be roughly 30” long when done. Sorry I don’t have the exact measurements as I don’t have one on the go right now. But you can adjust this as well to fit the way you want. If you are still working on it I suggest placing stoppers at the end of your needles and then pull the one end through the inside. You can then try it on and fold up the brim to your desired height to see the size you like. Hope that helps! 😊
